Author, performance artist, and conceptual artist whose literary works included "Obamistan! Land without Racism: Your Guide to the New America," her second satirical work.

She graduated from Brown University in 1990 with a double major in Public Policy and American Civilization and also worked for a time as a farmhand, house painter, and bookseller.

She legally dropped her last name, Patterson, in 1995 and was from then on known simply by her first and middle names.

She adopted a rescue dog named Stevie.

She and award-winning author Isaac Singer both wrote personal memoirs.
