Scientist who worked for Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California and wrote the software used to navigate Voyagers 1 and 2. He is also a prominent character in Lucifer's Hammer, a 1977 post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Larry Niven .

He attended Caltech after receiving a scholarship from a high school science fair.

He was a member of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society and he created the imaginary planet of Wibblefubwilda, a planet where everyone gets his heart's desire.

He died from complications of diabetes.

He was a fan of Robert Zemeckis .
