ABOUT DAVE HOLLAND

English double bassist, musician, instrumentalist, bass guitarist, cellist, composer and bandleader who is best known as a leading member who helped usher jazz bass playing from its swing and post-bop legacy to the vibrancy and multi discipline excitement of the modern era.

At the age of four, he began teaching himself how to play stringed instruments such as the ukulele, guitar and bass guitar. He quit school at the age of 15 to pursue his profession in a pop band.
He attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In the year 2005, he launched his own independent record label, Dare2.






He has won the Critics Poll in Down Beat magazine for Musician of the Year, Big Band of the Year, and Acoustic Bassist of the Year. He also was the recipient of the Miles Davis Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival.

He was born and raised in Wolverhampton, England.

He has been inspired by artists such as Ray Brown , Oscar Peterson , Charles Mingus , and Jimmy Garrison .
