Hedge fund manager who co-founded Greenlight Capital. He became well-known for prescient bets on Allied Capital and Lehman Brothers.

He started his firm with $900,000 in capital. He managed a 20 percent annualized return for his investors and was one of the first to sell stock of several major companies right before the stock price decreased.

He became a prominent critic of the banking system after the financial crisis of the 2000s, saying it worked mainly to reward the wealthy.

His family was residing in Westchester County, New York, when he was born. He was raised Jewish and moved to Wisconsin when he was seven.

He and Sal Khan had similar career trajectories with Khan being a Wall Street hedge fund manager before he left to start his online academy.
