ABOUT DAVID GASCOYNE
English surrealist poet and author known for such works as Requiem, A Vagrant and Other Poems, Night Thoughts, and Sun at Midnight. His literary reputation perhaps most rests on two exceptional works: Man's Life is This Meat, published in 1936, and Hölderlin's Madness, published in 1938.
His first poetry collection, Roman Balcony and Other Poems, was published when he was sixteen years old.
He briefly joined the British Communist Party in 1936.
He married Judy Lewis in 1975. He had met her in an English hospital while she was reading his poem "September Sun."
He met artist Salvador Dali during a period spent in Paris prior to World War II.
