English actor known for his roles in numerous popular British television series. He portrayed Inspector Slack in the murder mystery series Miss Marple. His film credits include roles in The Nun and Rebecca .

He has appeared in a number of plays, such as Henrik Ibsen 's A Doll's House and William Shakespeare 's The Tempest. In 2002, he appeared in a television documentary about King George V.
His mother, Alice Mary, worked a teacher and his father, Morris Horovitch, worked as a child care worker. He was married to Jane Elizabeth Gwynn Roberts from 1967 to 1985.
He worked alongside Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga on the cast of The Nun.
