ABOUT DAVID REID
Given the nickname The American Dream following a stunning come-from-behind victory to secure a gold medal for the United States at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games.
He won early amateur titles and was crowned the 1993 National Golden Gloves Welterweight champion, 1994 United States Amateur Welterweight champion, and 1996 United States Amateur Light middleweight champion.
He took home gold at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata in the welterweight division.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He drew comparisons to Oscar De La Hoya due to his gold medal victory in the Olympics for the United States, something which De La Hoya had done four years prior.
