ABOUT DAVID SHINER

A writer and director for Cirque du Soleil, he also had a long career as a clown and acted on Broadway and in television. His wordless play, Fool Moon, earned both a Drama Desk Award and a special Tony Award.

He started out as a Paris street mime, and then made his way to Cirque du Soleil, where he became one of the performance troupe's most memorable clowns.

He made his first on-screen appearance in 1992 in Lorenzo's Oil. He subsequently appeared in Sam Shepard 's film, Silent Tongue.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts to a computer programmer father and a homemaker mother.

He collaborated with Bill Irwin on the creation and performance of Fool Moon. The popular performance piece ran for seven years on Broadway.
