ABOUT DIEGO ALONSO

Soccer manager and former player whose greatest managerial success came with CF Pachuca, with whom he won Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions League titles. In his playing days, he was a journeyman striker who competed for such clubs as CA Bella Vista and CA Peñarol.

He played for CA Bella Vista's youth squad as a teenager.

As a player, he won the Zarra Trophy for scoring the most goals in La Liga during the 2001-02 season.

He is the cousin of soccer player Iván Alonso .

He has coached Cesar Montes at CF Monterrey.
