American author whose best known works include "Coyote Run" and "Valley of Tears." He wrote in several literary genres, including western fiction, memoir, and science fiction.
He wrote, produced, directed, and co-starred in the low-budget martial arts film, "The Instructor."
He was inducted into the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame in 1995.
He and his wife, Shirley, had six children and eleven grandchildren.
He and Clint Eastwood were both nominated for the Spur Award for their Western-themed works.
