ABOUT DORIANNE LAUX

American poet and Pushcart Prize recipient known for What We Carry, Facts About the Moon, and other works. Her 2011 work, The Book of Men, received both the Paterson Prize and the Roanoke-Chowan Award.

She worked as a maid, cook, and gas station manager before completing her degree in English at Mills College.

Between 1999 and 2013, her work was featured in three editions of The Best American Poetry.

She married fellow poet Joseph Millar. She and Millar settled in North Carolina with their daughter.

She and Mexican-American poet Gary Soto were born in the same year.
