Advice columnist best known for her Ask E. Jean column that ran in Elle magazine between 1993 to 2019. Her fame grew exponentially in 2019 when she wrote and published "What Do We Need Men For?: A Modest Proposal." The book laid out accusations of rape and sexual assault against Donald Trump and Les Moonves, both of whom denied all allegations. She later sued Trump for defamation and battery through the New York Supreme Court. The jury found him liable for both charges and awarded $5 million to Carroll. Her ejeancarroll1 Instagram account features snapshots with friends, selfies, and information about her work. She has amassed 10,000 followers.

She attended Indiana University and was crowned Miss Indiana University in 1963.

When she was fired from Elle magazine in 2020, she contended that it was due to her contentious relationship with Trump. Executives from the magazine denied the allegations.

She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Thomas Carroll and Betty McKinney. Her father was an inventor, and her mother was a Republican politician.

In December of 2021, she posted with Kathy Griffin and Mary Trump .
