ABOUT EAMON DUNPHY

Former soccer player who became a respected broadcaster, serving as an analyst for televised Premiere League games. As a player, he played for Millwall FC from 1965 to 1974, becoming the most-capped player in team history.

He grew up poor in Dublin and left as a teenager to play youth soccer for Manchester United.

He was commissioned by Irish rock band U2 to write a biography of their early years. The resulting book was released in 1988 to generally positive reviews.

He married RTE commissioning editor Jane Gogan in 2009.

He was a supporter or Irish republican presidential candidate Martin McGuinness during the 2011 election.
