Jazz drummer who was part of The Ed Blackwell Project and who played with Ornette Coleman . He was very active in bolstering the 1950s free jazz scene.
He learned to play the drums when he was young.
He lectured at Wesleyan University.
He was brought up in New Orleans.
He briefly toured with Ray Charles .
