Nicknamed "The Glider" for his graceful actions, he was a third baseman and part of the 1969 "Miracle" New York Mets that won the 1969 World Series.

He attended Gibbs High School in Florida.

He played for the Kansas City Athletics from 1962 to 1967.

He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Hall of Fame ace pitcher Tom Seaver was his teammate on the Mets.
