He learned how to throw a knuckleball in his teens and earned the nickname 'Knuckles.'
He helped the Chicago White Sox win a World Series in 1917.
He had two daughters, Rose and Virginia, and one son, Edward Jr., with his wife Rose.
He played with slugger Joe Jackson . They were both banned from baseball for trying to throw the 1919 World Series.
