His best-known design, that of the Kunstihoone art building in Tallinn, departed from his early architectural aesthetic by adhering to a functionalist style.
He designed gardens and furniture and worked as an interior designer as well as an architect.
He was raised in Valgjarve, Estonia.
He was born in the same country as fellow architect Robert Natus .
