The American author of the famous Jerry Todd series of young adult novels, he is also known for his Andy Blake, Poppy Ott, and Tuffy Bean books. His work was especially popular during the 1920s and '30s.
In spite of his mother's early discouragement of his writing career, he rose to prominence as a commercial writer and jingle composer.
His Jerry Todd series included sixteen novels.
His son with wife Gladys Eveline Tuttle was the inspiration for his most popular character, Jerry Todd.
He composed a jingle for William Howard Taft 's presidential campaign: "Who has the presidential grin? It's Taft, Taft, Taft."
