ABOUT ELISE COWEN
Beat Generation poet whose work was published in City Lights Journal and other prominent literary magazines. A posthumous collection of her poetry -- Elise Cowen: Poems and Fragments -- was published in 2014.
She attended Barnard College, where she met longtime friend and fellow beatnik poet Allen Ginsberg .
She was treated for psychosis and hepatitis at Bellevue Hospital and later ended her own life.
Her family, disliking her sex and drug-use-themed works, destroyed most of her poetry after her death.
She was influenced by the work of Emily Dickinson .
