ABOUT ELSTON HOWARD

Former catcher and left fielder who was a nine-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glove winner, and AL MVP in 1963.

He was a multi-talented athlete at Vashon High School in St. Louis.

The Yankees retired his number 32 jersey.

His parents were Travis Howard and Emaline Hill.

Before reaching the majors, he played in the Negro Leagues and roomed with Hall-of-Famer Ernie Banks .
