He studied film at Sarah Lawrence College in New York after earning the title of "Most Dramatic Boy" in high school.

He is known to movie-goers for his roles in Resident Evil (2002) and Cruel Intentions (1999).

He has two sons, Rylan and Maxfield, with wife, Ivy Sherman.

He played America Ferrera 's on-screen boss in the series, Ugly Betty.
