ABOUT ERIC PORTER
Stage and film actor who gained recognition for his BAFTA Award-winning role as Soames Forsyte in the BBC's The Forsyte Saga. He won the London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actor for his work on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
He made his stage debut at Cambridge at the age of 17.
He continued to act on stage until shortly before his death in 1995. His last on-screen role was on the TV show Performance in 1994.
His parents are Richard John Porter and Phoebe Elizabeth Spall.
He appeared with Michael Lonsdale in the 1973 acclaimed film The Day of the Jackal.
