An early Honky Tonk singers who sang hits like "Walkin' the Floor Over You," and "Two Glasses Joe."

Growing up listening to Jimmy Rodgers, he learned how to yodel, sing, and play guitar in his teen years. From a small radio host job at a local station, he began singing for RCA.

He was the first Grand Ole Opry performer to use an electric guitar.

He was the youngest of five children born in a cotton farming family in Ellis County, Texas.

Throughout his career, he played and toured with country music greats like Pewee King and Roy Acuff .
