ABOUT EVE MERRIAM
American poet who won the 1981 NCTE Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children and released the book The Inner City Mother Goose which was described as one of the most banned books of its time.
She graduated with an A.B. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1937 and went to graduate school at Columbia University.
She won the Yale Younger Poets Prize for her first book, Family Circle, in 1946.
She was married twice and became actress Jennifer Salt's stepmother.
Like her, poet James Arlington Wright also won the Yale Younger Poets Prize.
