ABOUT FRANCIS PHARCELLUS CHURCH
Editor, journalist, and publisher who established the Army and Navy Journal and, three years later, the Galaxy Magazine. He penned the well-known 1897 editorial "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus."
He attended Columbia University during the late 1850s.
His legendary editorial appeared in The New York Sun, a newspaper that was, at the time, headed by his brother.
He and his brother William Conant Church collaborated on several New York publishing projects.
He and Andrew Carnegie were both buried in New York's Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
