He played soccer while attending Merton College, Oxford.
He was controversially fired from the BBC after a drug scandal in 1988.
He had three children, David, Stephen and Andrew, with his wife Nesta Howells.
He was a presenter for the documentary series Holiday, which has also been the case for David Bull .
