Award-winning saxophonist, humanitarian, and leader of Living Color and The Loud Minority. He played often with Count Basie .
He moved to Detroit to play music and ended up drafted into the US Army; he joined Count Basie's band when he was released.
He performed at fundraisers and auctioned off a gold saxophone to benefit the The Jazz Foundation of America.
He was married to Cecilia Foster, his wife of forty-five years; they raised six children.
He arranged "Mack the Knife" for Frank Sinatra on L.A. Is My Lady.
