ABOUT FRED DEAN
Defensive end whose 10 year NFL career earned him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He played for the San Francisco 49ers and the San Diego Chargers. As an anchor he helped the 49ers win the Super Bowl in both 1981 and 1984.
He was a second-team All-American defensive end during his senior season for Louisiana Tech University . He was taken by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft.
He was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1981. He ended his career as a 4-time Pro Bowler and 2-time first-team All-Pro honoree.
He passed away in October 2020 due to COVID-19 complications.
He played alongside fellow NFL Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott for the San Francisco 49ers between 1981 and 1985.
