Fred Smith

ABOUT FRED SMITH

Guitarist and member of the garage rock band MC5. He was also a founding member of Sonic's Rendezvous Band.

He was born in West Virginia but later moved to Michigan.

He was rated #93 on Rolling Stone's 2003 list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

He married singer Patti Smith in 1980. He died of heart failure at the age of forty-five.

Kim Gordon 's band, Sonic Youth, took its name from Smith's nickname, "Sonic."
