Filipino folk musician recognized for his rendition of the patriotic song "Bayan Ko." He also found success with his 1978 single "Anak." His musical influences include James Taylor and Cat Stevens . He released over 15 albums throughout his long career.

He started playing the guitar at the age of 9.

His song "Anak" has been covered by numerous artists, including Regine Velasquez , Gary Valenciano , and Sharon Cuneta . In 2019, he ran for senator and was endorsed by Rodrigo Duterte .

He had a sister named Marlene. He was married to his first wife Josephine Queipo from 1973 until 2000. He was married twice more and had two children.

He was an outspoken opponent of the regime of Ferdinand Marcos .
