Session drummer who appeared on more than 15,000 studio sessions from the 1950s to the 1970s. He is a member of the 20th Century Drummers' Hall of Fame.
His first successful recording session was when he worked as a replacement studio drummer.
He released the drumming book New Breed.
His daughter is a singer.
He was friends with drummer Max Weinberg .
