American artist known for "Black Grey Beat" from 1964 and other paintings featuring vertical, multi-colored stripes. "Franklin's Footpath" and "Sun Sonata" were among his most popular creations.
He worked as a journalist during the 1940s, primarily writing sports and covering the Washington Redskins.
He held his first solo exhibition at the Dupont Theater Gallery in 1952.
He spent the majority of his life in the Washington, D.C., area.
He was influenced by Andy Warhol .
