ABOUT GEORGE SAUNDERS

The New York Times bestselling author of The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip, he is also known for a short fiction collection entitled Tenth of December: Stories.

After graduating from Syracuse University with a master's degree in creative writing, he worked as a technical writer for an environmental engineering firm in New York.

A common theme of his work is the absurdity of consumerist and corporate culture. While much of his writing takes on a lighthearted tone, it does raise serious moral questions.

He was born in Amarillo, Texas, and he grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.

Ben Stiller bought the film rights to Saunders' book, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, in the late 1990s.
