She graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Harvard University with a Master's of Business Administration.

She helped found a corporate event planning company called Charisma Factor. She has been featured in Fortune, Black Enterprise, Glamour, and Ebony.

Her son is Chauncey C. Mayfield II.

She and Roberto Shinyashiki are both self-help authors and entrepreneurs.
