Philanthropist and businessman who sold his family's Getty Oil to Texaco for $10 billion in 1983. He was named the richest person in America with $2 billion that same year.
He studied music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
He donated $3 million to the charitable trust Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation in 2002.
His mother, Ann Rork, was J. Paul Getty's fourth wife. He married Ann Gilbert in Las Vegas on Christmas Day 1964 and has since had seven children.
He became famous for being the fourth son of J. Paul Getty .
