ABOUT GORDON W. PRANGE
The author of popular World War II histories, he is best known for Tora! Tora! Tora!, At Dawn We Slept, and Miracle at Midway. For more than four decades, he taught history at the University of Maryland.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1937. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He studied briefly in Berlin, where he witnessed Hitler's speeches firsthand. From 1945 to 1951, he worked as the chief staff historian for General Douglas MacArthur .
He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa.
Akira Kurosawa was involved in the 1970 film adaptation of Prange's work, Tora! Tora! Tora!
