Painter, performance artist, and co-founder of the controversial Viennese Actionism movement. Recipient of the Grand Austrian State Prize in 1997 and foremost figure of the NO!Art movement.
He was a self-taught artist who was, at one point, sentenced to a prison term for his shocking, revolutionary performance art.
He created a controversial performance piece, "Kunst und Revolution," at the University of Vienna in which he sang the Austrian National Anthem while masturbating.
He was born in Ardning, Styria, Austria.
He and Orlan were both known for their controversial performance art.
