He worked odd jobs as a welder, parts inspector and salesman before receiving his first acting role.
He had his only two starring film roles in Captain Sinbad (1963) and Damon and Pythias (1962).
He began a 35-year marriage to Janice Cooper in 1948. He had two children named Steven and Toni.
He acted alongside Lorne Greene on five episodes of Bonanza in 1964.
