Hakainde Hichilema
ABOUT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA
Zambian businessman, farmer and politician who is known as the seventh and current president of Zambia. He took office on August 24, 2021. He began leading the United Party for National Development in 2006 following the death of the party founder Anderson Mazoka.
In 1986, he graduated from the University of Zambia with a bachelor's degree in economics and business Administration. He pursued an MBA in Finance and Business Strategy at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
From 1994 to 1998, he served as the chief executive officer of Coopers and Lybrand Zambia, and Grant Thornton Zambia. His Twitter account has gained over 650,000 followers.
In 1988, he married Mutinta Hichilema. They have three children, Chikonka, Miyanda and Habwela.
In November 2017, he was interviewed by Stephen Sackur on the BBC television program HARDtalk.
