Classical music composer and opera singer who was among Egypt's first generation of classical composers.
He began taking violin lessons when he was eight years old. He studied agriculture in England at Durham University beginning in 1914.
His opera "Antony's Death" was widely considered to be the first full-length opera composed by an Egyptian.
He was married to violinist and composer Baheega Sidky Rasheed. She was best known for her tome "Egyptian Folk Songs" from 1958.
His period of prominence came a few decades before British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber .
