ABOUT HORACIO GUTIéRREZ

Virtuoso classical musician who was widely considered one of the latter 20th century's greatest pianists. He has recorded Concertos by Brahms and Tchaikovsky. For his musical achievements, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1982.

He appeared in the Young People's Concerts with Leonard Bernstein in 1966.

His successful teaching career included stints at the University of Houston from 1996 until 2003 and the Manhattan School of Music from 2004 until 2009.

He was the oldest of four. His mother was a successful pianist and piano teacher.

He studied with Vladimir Horowitz 's first teacher, Sergei Tarnowsky, after moving to Los Angeles when he was 13.
