ABOUT HUGH TAYFIELD

South African cricket legend who held the record for fewest matches played before taking 100 wickets in Test play. He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1956.

He grew up in an avid cricketing family and made his debut with Natal at age seventeen.

He earned the nickname "Toey Tayfield" because of his tendency to rub his toes into the ground before each delivery.

He was married to Barbara Metcalf, with whom he had a son named Robert.

He and Hashim Amla are both South African cricketers who were named Wisden Cricketer of the Year.
