Northern Irish actor who played Barristan Selmy in Game of Thrones . He went on to portray Val-El in the science-fiction action series Krypton . His film credits include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story , Sacrifice, and Leap Year .
He worked as a teacher before launching his acting career.
He co-founded Stones Film Productions Ltd and Rathmore Productions Ltd. He narrated the 2015 documentary Ireland's Great War. In late 2022, he posted on Twitter about a film crew worker named Davy Kinghan who had passed away.
He and his wife, actress Marie Jones, have three sons.
He and Peter Dinklage worked together on the cast of Game of Thrones.
