ABOUT IAN WILMUT

Famous for being part of the scientific group that created the first cloned animal, a sheep named Dolly. He taught at the University of Edinburgh's MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine and was later knighted in 2008 for his groundbreaking scientific work.

After earning his undergraduate degree in Agriculture from the University of Nottingham , he received his doctorate in Cryobiology from the University of Cambridge.

He co-wrote a 2006 publication titled After Dolly: The Uses and Misuses of Human Cloning.

The son of math teacher Leonard Wilmut, he was born and raised in Hampton Lucy, Warwickshire, England.

Wilmut and American veterinary scientist Gordon Woods both undertook successful cloning projects. Woods cloned a mule in 2003.
