He released his first music single, "World Affairs," when he was in his mid-twenties.

He released Lyrical Gangsta, his first album for Elektra Records, in 1995.

He was born Cecil Campbell in Saint Mary, Jamaica.

Kamoze's signature song, "Here Comes the Hotstepper," was based on a 1966 R&B hit performed by Wilson Pickett .
