ABOUT IRENE VILLA

Spanish journalist turned political figure who is recognized for having been a victim in the Euskadi Ta Askatasuna separatist movement attack in Madrid. She went on to be a columnist for the newspaper La Razon.

She lost both of her legs and several fingers in the ETA's 1991 terrorist attack.

She became a paralympic skier and trained to participate in the 2010 Winter Paralympics.

She married Juan Pablo Lauro in 2011.

She and fellow journalist Eduardo Aguirre were both born in Spain.
