ABOUT J. P. DONLEAVY
Irish-American novelist and playwright who is known for such works as The Ginger Man and A Fairy Tale of New York. The former work made the Modern Library's list of the 100 Best novels.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later moved to Ireland.
He declared himself an atheist at the age of fourteen.
He was the New York-born son of Irish parents. He had two children with his first wife Valerie Heron. He later married Mary Wilson Price.
He and James George Frazer both studied at Trinity College.
