NFL Hall of Fame safety who was named to 5 Pro Bowls and recorded 46 interceptions during his eight-year career with the Detroit Lions.

He was raised in an orphanage in Kentucky.

He retired with an impressive 12.8-yard punt-return average.

He fathered four daughters with his wife, Doris.

He was chosen along with Hugh McElhenny to the NFL's 1950s All-Decade Team.
