ABOUT JACK NEWTON
Australian golfer who competed in the PGA Tour, the PGA Tour of Australia, and the European Tour, amongst other tournaments.
He won the Dutch Open, his first professional golf tournament, in 1971.
His golf career ended at its height in 1983 due to injuries he sustained from accidentally walking into a Cessna airplane's propeller.
He and his wife, Jackie, had a son and a daughter, both of whom grew up to become professional athletes.
He placed second at the 1980 Masters Tournament, behind champion Seve Ballesteros .
