ABOUT JAMES DAWSON VIII

Best known for his appearance on the 15th and final season of American Idol in 2016. He made through to the top 12 on the show.

He moved with his family to the California Bay Area around age 10. His interest in music grew by being introduced to iconic singers such as Eric Clapton by his mother at this early age.

He had previously successfully auditioned for America's Got Talent with his band. They were cut during the initial rounds, which led him to pursue American Idol immediately following his time on the show.

He was born in Tokyo, Japan. His father worked there for a data storage company.

He has cited Michael Jackson , alongside Eric Clapton , as two of his largest artistic influences.
